How to Store Coffee Beans at Home

Air, light, heat and moisture all dull coffee. A few simple habits keep it tasting good for longer.

By Bondi Press ·

Keep them airtight

Oxygen is the main enemy of fresh coffee. Keep your beans in their original resealable bag with the air pressed out, or move them to an airtight container.

Cool, dark and dry

Heat and light speed up staling. Store coffee in a cupboard away from the oven, kettle and sunny windows. Avoid clear containers on the bench.

Skip the fridge

Fridges are damp and full of strong smells, and coffee absorbs them. Unless you are freezing a sealed portion for long-term storage, a cupboard is better.

Grind just before you brew

Whole beans stay fresh longer than ground coffee, so grind only what you need for each brew. For the best flavour, use your beans within four to six weeks of the roast date.

Shop the coffee

Beach Blend, Coastal Blend — or browse all coffee beans.
